Goldfield & Banks, Ingenious Ginger

A gift for every moment

The perfect gift doesn’t need to be seasonal. The occasion might be a birthday, a win at the office, or maybe a moment of self-care. Whichever way, we are here for your inspiration.  Here’s our hot list of what we would like wrapped up and gently pressed into our palms from another, or in a moment of self-celebration.   The Fragrance Moment Goldfield & Banks, Ingenious Ginger As one’s perfume collection grows, the available space for play between fragrances could narrow – especially for a nose that knows what it likes. For a scent that boasts overall citrus and floral notes (my least reached-for categories), this unusual blend is a…

Chino Latino, Park Plaza

Slow London

For me, London tends to be a swift one-day affair for a day on set, back-to-back meetings or events across the city. However, last week my visit was a little different, I was to stay at The Gantry, a Stratford hotel, with dinner at Chino Latino, just south of the river.  To the eyes of someone with a packed schedule, staying almost an hour away from an evening destination might seem abhorrent. If this sounds all too familiar, let me explain why you need to embrace a slowing pace, and never overlook the joy of seeing one’s own country or city through the eyes of a tourist. The Gantry Arriving…

DISCOTHEQUE

Take us to the Discothéque

A little dress, legs out, heels on. Should I take a jacket? It’s early summer so I might need it. I will probably only want to toss it aside when I get there… I’ll grab an Uber rather than the Tube… It’s not pre-planning for a night out, but it could be. I am actually off to breakfast with Hanover and Jessie, from Discothéque. The newest, and in my humble (if not industry-specific) opinion, most exciting home fragrance launch I have attended in a long while. Now, it’s not a unique notion to use scent to take us away to another place or time, but Discothéque wants to whisk us…

Beauty Travel Packing

A month in the bag

I’m thinking of the perfect summer-defining scent for wandering warm olive groves at a spa retreat in The Algarve or Greece, and my ideal capsule holiday makeup bag for a weekend in Paris or Milan. You?

Oway Colour Protection

A morning with Blue Tit

I don’t know where to start with my hair journey. It’s been a wild ride. Colours? I’ve had them all – quite literally during a particularly fun rainbow of pastels during a ‘My Little Pony’ phase. Blue Weekend, by Bleach London, was the darkest I’ve ever gone. In sharing a lot of that navy blue hue with the lino and walls of the bathroom, I have no idea how I didn’t lose my flat deposit. Never drink and dye, my friends.

Méribel

Méribel, The Cheat Sheet

Freshly back from a trip to Méribel, my Moonboots still at the door and my Flight Deck still tucked in my Huff ‘n Puffa jacket, here’s a run-through of where to head this season in this enticing section of Les Trois Vallees.

A light refreshment

Cosmetic surgery, non-invasive procedure, treatment or tweakment: call it what you want, but throughout my decades-long career in beauty, no topic has ever been more divisive. The polarity between viewpoints is vast, and it seems nobody is without their opinion on the matter.

Moon Boot Icon

Five shades of the Moon

When it comes to Alpine wear, Moon Boot has become synonymous with mountainside style. But whilst we all know their quintessential Icon boot, there are many more ways to stand out in style when enjoying the snow.

Get A Drip – your pit stop to wellness?

We all know what it feels like when life starts to speed by. The days rapidly turn into weeks, meetings follow meetings, working late leads to rushed dinners out and a few too many drinks, then it’s hazy starts and your third coffee of the morning at nine am… and the cycle starts again. Before you know it, you’re going faster than you think and your stomach hasn’t caught up with the lurch of acceleration. To extend this metaphor further, it’s a miracle the car is still going straight, and you missed the sign to turn off at the next exit. Regardless of whether you manage to slow down enough…

Miller Harris, Rose Silence Eau De Parfum

The rules of The Stocking

In the Lake household, the Christmas Stocking is a sacred artefact. Everyone sleeping on the night of Santa’s rooftop landing meets the morning with a stocking; children, adults and guests alike. They are a festive staple and personally, my favourite part of the morning.

Airelles, Courchevel

Escapism. Goodness knows we all need some after the last couple of years. Crossing the Masai Mara at sunrise by hot air balloon to watch the migration or boarding the Glacier Express across the alps is arguably bucket list-worthy. However, for me, the instant gratification of short-haul travel is equally satisfying, waking up to the mundane breakfast at home, yet taking lunch somewhere completely out of the ordinary. With French Alpine resorts open, this can only mean taking that midday intermission mountainside.

Environ Skin EssentiA product range

A Morning With Environ

Springtime. My favourite time of year in London. We creep out of the winter, bleary-eyed and muscles stiff, stretch and look around. As quick as they came before, bitter mornings have made way for hazy lemonade sunrises of hot pinks and warm yellows. Magnolia trees bloom on the street edges, tulips burst from the curbsides, and parks are freshening their greens. With this first seasonal turn of the year comes many things, be that the pep in your step after finally feeling a decent dose of natural vitamin D, the craving to make changes to your daily drill after the long winter, or an overall spring clean of the home,…

A morning with Decorté

Sparkling lights, a plethora of exciting cafes, new restaurants, stylish bars, and the scopious stores we can only dream of out in the sticks. But most importantly for this beauty-obsessed creature, central holds the homes of a thousand beauty brands, each more exciting and alluring than the last.

Fiona Campbell

Basic Addition

Sometimes an idea for an article comes from an experience, a question, or maybe a new launch. The seed might be planted by something that piques my interest as a development in the industry, which I want to nourish into fruition by further research – or as with the last issue, a huge change in the industry itself. I am the first to admit that the plans I had for my upcoming articles have had some huge changes, in order to stay reactive and true to the events of the past 18 months. As the seasons meandered in and out of lockdown, we somehow flew from month to month. And…

The Industry’s Pandemic

I’ve spoken many times over the undulating course of the last year about Covid and its effect on the industry I not only work within, but love dearly. More than just survival, the stirring efforts made by so many across beauty and wellness to bring their customers closer to their brand is something that deserves celebrating in itself.

10 Of The Best – Lip Balms

‘A kiss is a secret which takes the lips for the ear’. Except it’s cold out, with the seasonal weather making even the most sensual secret into a hoarse whisper. I’ve lost count of the times I’ve pressed a balm to the rest of my face when donning my facemask, the material either sticking to any salve or else the feeling of cotton chafing my un-balmed lips. Finding the perfect lip balm has always been a quest of mine, but now we have further compounding factors affecting performance. So, tried and tested over the last few months, here are my top ten.  Best for SPF, think of Lip Defence as…

The Beauty Passport Goes To Korea – With Kōsame

The Beauty Passport, as a series, was born from a particular passion I indulge when travelling. I deign not to bring home tourist trinkets; photos and memories will do for me. And as much as I enjoy perusing fashion whilst away, I know from experience that falling into the moment with an impulsively-purchased pashmina I’ll never wear again will only frustrate me when unpacking at home. For me, the holy-grail purchases from my travels are the beauty items I can’t get back home (and some of the most treasured times are the moments I spend sneaking off in pursuit of them). The best liquid eyeliner I’ve ever used was from…

2020 Vision – The beauty in tech
